Getting started

OK here we will start the journey of restoring this bike. I have decided instead of diving head first in to this project I decided to set up mini goals. So instead of working on the bike till I fall dead from exhaustion, or getting frustrated to the point that I can't see strait, I will map out what I am going to do that day and perform it. And then stop and go no further. At the end of each goal, I will set back, admire what I did, and map out my next goal for the next time I work on her. Before you know it, after all these mini goals are complete, the whole bike will be back together looking as good as new.

With that said, my first goal is to disassemble every thing from the air box back not including the wheel, that will come later.

First to go is the seat.
Tada!
 ------------------------------------------------------

Take off the acorn nut, a allen head bolt, and the bolt below .....

...and off comes the grab bar

so far so good.

Next is the shocks.

I had a hell of a time getting the bottom right bolt off, it kept hitting the muffler.
but with some patience I got it off and with the before mention acorn nut on the grab bar, off came the shocks.
These are the orignal shocks that the factory put on 27 years ago. From what I read on the forum that I belong to, they where junk to begin with, and was only good up to 4000 miles. This bike has 27000 miles.

-----------------------------------------------------

The the tool box (yes it has one) is next.

This thing is in very poor shape cosmetically
------------------------------------------------------
Next is the left and right seat latches..
Right side.

Left side.

These will be looking like new when im done.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Next will be the fender and tail light assembly.

The bolt on the left....

...and one toward the front of the fender on eash side is all that holds the fender in place.

The under side of the fender. Much work to be done.

This is the plastic inner fender, it just snaps out.

When I took the rear bolt to the fender off, the rear flashers with their mounts came off also.
----------------------------------------------------

Well that is it, I met my mini goal today. Taking every thing off from the air box rearward and this is what she looks like now.
I know it is hard to see, but if you look closely, after I take every part off, I screw the fasteners back in along with spacers if any. That beats trying to figure what nut/bolt in a box full of nuts/bolts go where.
So now I will set back and admire what I did and plan my next mini goal.....Till next time, good bye.

  1. Great job on the motorcycle! But it's missing something. Oh say, maybe a honey bear somewhere? LMFAO!
